My Narative

In room 13 we are writing narratives. Mine is about 2 video games beating each other up. For my orientation I wrote that a general was walking to his tent when a square ninja jumped from a tree holding another general and knocked out the other one general with knock out gas. In another dimension were red and blue blocks raining. They were used to build weapons tanks and all that kind of stuff. Once I finish my narrative I will publish it so you can read the whole story.

My Special Weekend

On Sunday my grandma and grandad took me and my sister to Motat. At motat we went in the space ship and in the space ship you watch 5 minutes movies that are could Journey to the center of the earth. Then we went to the mirrors we had lots of fun in them. After that we went to the cafe to have some lunch. For lunch I had a ham, lettuce, and egg sandwich and a chocolate chip biscuit. Then we went on the tram and we had heaps of fun. Finally went home. BY Sydnie.

My Rugby League Game

On Saturday my team, named the Ponsonby Ponies, versed Marist Gold. Marist Gold is the hardest team ever. In the first half, Marist kicked off to Ponsonby. My friend named Boston caught the ball. He ran and got tackled then he got up and replayed the ball. Then my big strong, Kobe had his run. He stepped and ran. He jumped and scored. Our team went WILD. Marist tapped the ball. I ran up and tackled the biggest boy in Marist. I grabbed his arm and tripped him up.

In the first half the score was 20 - 0. In the second half my friend named Zen kicked the ball of to Marist. A Marist player ran and then I ran up and tackled him. They replayed the ball I ran up and spear tackled him. He got injured then it became a turn over. It was my run. I ran to the midle then stepped him then I RAN STRAIGHT AND JUMPED AND LANDED. I SCORED! Then we noticed we were in the lead, 25-10. PREEEEEEEP!!! The referee blew his whistle. They kicked the ball to us and we won, 45-25. It was a great win.

Moshi Monsters

On Sunday I went on Moshi Monsters. It was for free. I was excited but it was annoying because I had to do lots of annoying things like passwords and names. We also had to have our email checked. After all of that then you can play. It is a maths and writing game. You can buy food and seeds also decorate your virtual house.

On Saturday at 1.30pm at the church hall near school, I do Bollywood. I do Bollywood every Saturday. In Bollywood you have to keep in time to a beat like 1,2,3,4. Every time a beat goes you do actions to the music . It is very fun. It started last term. Anisah, from my class, started on the 31st July. Anisah is 1 of my friends that j ust came on 1 of the last practises. Lots of people were there like Madeline in Year 3, Zara, Lola and Anisah. we do lots of cool and interesting moves. Bollywood is interesting you should do it. Your mums and dads will like watching.

ACN

My mum and dad own a business. The business is called ACN. ACN stands for landlines, toll callings and more of where that came from. My mum and dad go to meetings of ACN and they have to collect people they know. The ACN business are only for parents. If they bring children in and both of the parents go in the other has to stay with them. My prediction of what ACN actually stands for is "Actually Concentrating Nicely". Sometimes we all go and dad looks after us and mum listens to it. Usually the 3 of us and I mean my sister Tes my baby brother William + big sister Jennifer always stay with our Aunty. Hopefully my mum and dad will keep up the good work.

Talofa !

Hi did you get three weeks of school holidays? Well I did because I went to Samoa. I went to coconut resort and drank coconut milk and I did spear fishing with my dad and dad got a pufferfish as big as a thumb. There is a myth about the coconut that the three circles on the bottom look like an eel face. Then I went on a ship to La lagoto where I saw lots of big fish when I went snorkeling. The food was really yum and we met some really nice people.

My Uncle Kamal

My uncle travels around the world . Right now he is in Dubai. It is summer over there and he said it is almost 50 degrees!. He came to visit on the 24th of July . He came at night and he went at 2 pm. He works on the plane and gives out food and stuff. He said lots of the people are poor and want to take the food. My Auntie does the same job. When he was on the plane and was on his way to Dubai I did not get to say good bye. When I am older I am going to Malaysia.

My holiday

In the holidays I went to Gisborne. It took quite a while to get there but it was ok.When we got to my grandparents house, I unpacked my things just before my mum poked her head round the door and said "get your shoes on because were going to our cousins!" Well to be exact my uncle Chris'. When we got there I was really excited because I had a new baby cousin. When we went inside one of my cousins [Tui] ran over to me and gave me a hug because she had not seen me in ages. My baby cousin was so cute.I had an awesome time in Gisborne.

Hot wheels cars.

Hi I am going to talk about my hot wheels cars.
I've got 206 cars and have got the NEW hot wheels track. It's got a loop the loop and a huge spider.
Also my favourite car is a gold car with a special thing - nitros and 22 inch wheels at the back.
My cars that are not hot wheels cars they are for sale at $1 dollar each car and a poster is $4 dollars and a book for $2 dollars.
The car I don't like is this classic car. It looks fast but it is not fast and it's pretty ugly.
Thank you. I hope you enjoy my hot wheels story and the sale stuff. By Te Ua.

The Kereru

Yesterday afternoon I saw a kereru in the backyard up in a tree. I followed it when it flew from tree to tree. My dad and sister did too .My sister got really close to it. I did too but I had to climb a tree. Then I looked up. It was above my head - wow! "Look at its beautiful colours," i said. I felt good to see kereru up close. by Acacia.

Do you like the real picture of the kereru and my picture too?

A Proud Teacher

I am at home after the first week of school. By this time I am usually talking about how many weeks until the next set of holidays but this week I went home a happy, happy teacher. I went home full of pride. My kiddies in Room 13 made me so proud today the way they showcased their learning with their parents. Then they performed in their Kapa Haka group and made a lot of people cry from joy. Then I had to announce the speech winners which is aways a hard job as a teacher because it means there were students who didn't qualify for the finals, and I saw another great thing. A boy from my class who didn't make it went up to one of the boys who made it and gave him the biggest hug. If only the mega powers who run this world of ours could be so kind and thoughtful.

I just want it out there that I LOVE my class and all 29 of you make coming to school fun for me. I just had the best first week back. Let's keep it up !

Much adoration from your very proud teacher,
Andrea

Circus Kumarani's 5th Birthday Show

Hugo and Mum

My favourite show I remember was a Circus Kumarani Show with Unicycle Tony jumping over three people on stage. He was a dangerman and tried to jump on to the big walking globe. My friends Danny, Daniel, Reagan and Jason performed 'The Boys are Back' and ran up a ramp and leapt off the stage into the audience. I had candyfloss. I was 6 years old.

Hugo and Mum

Me!

My favourite memory was when I went to Rainbows End.
My favourite song is called Grace Kelly by Mika.
My favourite shows are Spongebob Squarepants and Tom and Jerry.
I like pancakes - they are made of eggs, flour and milk.
My handy hint is if you want to cook your pancakes fast, use two frying pans.
My goals for the future are to be able to type fast, go to the South Island, see the World cup live and to have another cat.

My New Pet

Last term l got a rabbit. It's name is Chloe. It is a girl. Everyday I give her a cuddle. She is cheeky. Chloe is only young. The roof of her hutch is not put on properly because I haven't finished it yet. She keeps on getting out because she is only little and we have to put heavy things on top to keep her in. My dad is silly because he lets the rabbit out and then he spends ages trying to catch it.

'Hi i'm Isla and i'm blogging about my pets'

Well I have 3 cats 3 fish and 5 sea snails.I have only named 2 snails because they all look the same. One is called Swimmy because he always floats and the other is called spiral because she has a perfect spiral on her. Moving on to the fish 1 is called Itsy Bitsy the other ones called teeny weeny and third is Hubba Bubba. Itsy bitsy is called Itsy Bitsy because well who knows why Teeny Weeny is called teeny weeny because he is so small an Hubba Bubba is called Hubba Bubba because he has a red dot on his head that looks strawberry Hubba Bubba. My cats are called Jimmy Piper and Tashi. Tashi was a stray but now every night she curls up on your lap.Jimmy andPiper are brothers they are british blue cross tabby . Jimmy is dark grey with a white chest and a white mustache. Piper mostly a tabby so he is light grey with white circles around his eyes also white dots and a white chest. One day I want to get a rabbit because their soft small and they do cute little hops.
This was all about my pets.

My 100 word story

In the holiday I went to Wellington to see my family. Both my aunts cousins and uncles were there! It was crowded. We went to Toy-Story 3. It rocked. A good part was when the aliens said,” the claw.” After that we went home and had a delicious dinner. That night I dreamed of that movie. The next day we had a look around town. I did not look at any shops because they were all girl shops. Then we got the bus home. When we got home we played and had diner then I went to bed. They were two cool days .

The next day Kaiden woke us up at about 4 o,clock so we got up and watched TV. After a couple of hours my brother and Nana got up and made breakfast. A little wile later I played with Kaiden then I got dressed. WhenI came to see Kaiden he was in his jolly jumper swing so I stood in front of him and jumped with him. I got really tired but when I was about to stop he started to smile and then he opened his mouth as wide as he could! It looked so funny. When he is older I'm going to tell him that story.

When we got there my mum got me a free Blues flag and then I got my face painted in blue and white quarters. Then the game started. It wasn't cold because we were dressed in warm clothes. The score was 20 / 30 to the Blues. It was a great day of rugby because the team I play for Ponsonby won in the morning and the team I support the Blues won their game at night.

The Weirdest Place I would ever Live

We, the Tiki reading group read the journal story, Living in a Shipwreck by Anne Young. We did a fact finding report on the shipwreck story. We wanted to write a blog about it but when we conferenced with Andrea, we decided we would like to write about The Weirdest place they would ever live.

The responses were amazingly creative and quirky. We practised their scripts with each other. We made them into an iMovie which we recorded themselves. There were a lot of funny takes and we learned about the meaning of practise makes perfect. We are still practising.

Here is the result of our hard work and our first movie.

We would love comments so please leave them a message after the movie !

Adios !

Room 13's Homemade Sports Pie(graph)

This morning Andrea decided that we would do PE and Maths together. We were completely confused beciase we had never done Maths and sports together at the same time.
Our PE Monitors got out some equipment: tennis balls, 2 basketballs and skipping ropes.
We got into groups of three and we listened to the instructions.

In groups we had to count how many catches, skips and baskets we got altogether and record them on a tally chart.

We really enjoyed it. The basketball was hard to get into the hoop because it was high. Some people caught ore balls than others. We all discovered which of the three things we were better at.

When we came back to class we had to add up all the tally marks in each column and the numbers were surprising.
We had 426 tennis ball catches, 20 basketball baskets and 484 skipping rope jumps.

We had to decide what type of graph to use. We put our data into a pie graph and made it colourful.

We really liked PE today.

A peek into our classroom !

Term 1 has been super busy. Here is a movie about what we have been doing. We had the Auckland Art Gallery in showing us their road trip, Art in a Suitcase, where artists turned a suitcase into a work of art with symbols and pieces that are special to them or represent something about them. We also had a Wheels Day and we got to ride our bikes and scooters at school and we got our helmets checked for safety. There are also some clips of everyday learning and of us hard at work.

Enjoy the view and keep checking back !

Changes !

Our big idea this term is Changes. Room 13 is looking at personal change and changes around us.

In order for us to get excited about the topic, Andrea, our teacher, let us write about what changes we would make to Grey Lynn School since our school is turning 100 years old this year. We used the immersion step of our learning mode to really get an understanding of what change is and how it occurs around us.

We hope you enjoy reading all the changes we "plan" to make - some make sense, some are for fun, and some are just plain CRAZY!

A change that Andrea thought of was she wishes the school grounds had built in sprinklers so we could run through them and cool down on these hot days!

Enjoy !

The Power of One

WALT use past tense and time connectives when writing recounts.

Power of One - a blog entry written by the whole class during guided reading time.

Yesterday we went to the Puriri Tree and watched the Power of One - a show about bullying.
Firstly the actors introduced themselves. They told us the rules and started the first scene. Next the actors acted out all the different types of bullying . After that the actors asked people from the audience to act out a scene about bullying.
Finally Filo got dressed up as a super hero and he revealed the Power of One Box.
We learned that there are lots of types of bullying and the power of one starts with us when we tell our parents or teacher if we are being bullied. We really enjoyed the show.

Please comment on our writing. We would love your feedback.

Room 13's Class Treaty

A treaty is an agreement that two people or countries sign. In New Zealand the Maori and the Crown signed the Treaty of Waitangi so they could agree to live together and not have wars.

In our class we also have a treaty. Our treaty tells us what we should do in the classroom. Room 13 put their own rules on our treaty so no one will fight in our classroom. We all signed the treaty and put a picture of ourselves around the outside of it.

The treaty is a reminder for us to be nice to each other.

We are looking forward to exploring our topic of CHANGE and how we deal with personal changes and then growing that to the community and the world.

I cannot wait to see what the year brings and all the fun in learning we will have together.

Bring on 2010 and let's all reach for the stars !

Robot Day

Well the "ro-bags" and "ro-boxes" are finally unpacked and robot day was here.

We had two wonderful dads, Chris and Dermott, volunteer to help us make our robots. Mrs Fale was on the hot glue gun station and we set off to make our robots.

There were washers flying this way and rubber bands flying that way! "Who has an extra eye?" ....I found someones nose !" were the sounds we could hear.

We could also smell the burning smell of the hot glue gun hard at work. " Oh, that's why it is called hot glue!" said Sam.

Dermott was busy helping his line of students turn old vacuum cleaner bits and empty milk cartons into robots with smiles and quirky looks.

Chris was rivalling Mrs Fale for the title of HOT GLUE MASTER as he carefully assembled springs and washers into body parts and made these bits of metal come to life.

Mrs Fale thought today would give her a headache but at the end of the day she was so proud of us and our robots that we had three cheers for ourselves. She couldn't clap as her fingers were sporting a few hot glue gun mishaps !

Tomorrow some of us are spray painting ours while others are leaving theirs for the more rustic look.

Martin Horspool was our inspiration but he better watch out because I think we are after his job !

Thanks for showing us the beauty in a broken telephone and the potential a tangled mess of wire has. You were truly inspirational.

We will post more pictures tomorrow of the final products once the glue and paint have dried.

Martin Horspool Robots

The Kauri Team loved their visit from Martin Horspool. He showed us all his robots and gave us advice about how to build our robots. He stressed to us that we need to stop being a throw away society and look at our broken things as something else - not just recycled rubbish. Perhaps it can be a robot with it's own personality that looks like Grampa and then we make it and have our own piece of art.

Thanks Martin for the great advice and the cool post cards and showing us your family of robots.

Martin Horspool Robots

Yesterday we saw some of Martin Horspools metal robots that he makes from recycling other people's junk.
All of his robots have their own personality.
He started making robots 2 years ago and before making robots he made metal bugs.
When he's not making he works at a printing press.
Martin Horspool has just started making necklaces with robots on them as well as well making a Brobot for King Kapisi.

A big thanks to Chris Elliot for getting us in touch with Martin. Jasper's dad rocks !

THE ROBOT MAN

Yesterday Martin Horspool, a.k.a the robot man, came into our class and showed us some of his robots. He also answered some of our questions as well. It was amazing to see what he had done with all this rubbish he finds around the streets - but like some say, " one man's junk is another man's treasure. I hope my robot looks as good as his do !
Thanks for reading THE ROBOT MAN.

My robot

Today at free time I made a robot to put on this blog you are reading right now. I made a robot because we are making robot models out of recycled ingredients. Please comment on my story and robot picture.

Bees Knees

My sister and my dad found the swarm of bees from Grey Lynn School and caught them.
At first they looked like a nest but they were all of them squashed together.
It was very freaky.
My dad found one of my old lego boxes and got one of his old boxes and put my lid on top. Then he brushed the bees into the box and took them home and put them next to my other bee hive.
In order to get the honey, my dad needs to use his bee smoker. Once my dad got stung from using it.
It took about 20 minutes to catch the bees.
It took more than 24 hours to make a bit of honey.
They make the honeycomb in their hive.
The honeycomb is made out of bees wax.
