My Favourite Book

My favorite book is Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. My favourite part was when Harry   met Voldemort in the graveyard .My 2 favourite characters are Harry and Voldemort. If I were in the book I would be saying go Harry!

Totem Poles

Today we learned all about Totem Poles found in Canada. We looked at some examples of totem poles all around Canada and we loved the ones found in British Columbia, which is on the West Coast of Canada.

We noticed that totem poles almost always have animals and people on them.

We watched a video on how to draw one and then did our own, step by step. We had to really concentrate in order to know where to put what.

We will post some pictures of our totem poles tomorrow once they are finished.

My Trip

I'm going on the 24th of June from NZ to Bangkok to Vietnam to Cambodia back to Koi Sumi  (Thailand)  then back home. I am looking forward to Vietnam. We are going to do a cooking class. Cambodia sounds exciting. I've been to Koi Sumi before and it's very nice . Amy's mum recommended a hotel last time we stayed in Koi Sumi. We are staying there again! Bye! Catch up soon.

Going to London.

On Sunday me, my brother, my mum and my grandma are going to London for three weeks to meet my Dad who has been away in Nigeria for two months.
We are staying on a friend of my mum and dad's boat in a river.
We have been saving up for such a long time and now all our hard work at the market has paid off and we get a lovely trip.

Room 14s Trip to MOTAT

Hi its Ellah and Anouska  reporting on our trip to Motat. We were going there to investigate electricity.When Room 14 arrived at Motat we met our teacher for the day. At Motat we went into a big classroom . It had a big ball  and when you put your hands on it, your hair would stand on end. IT WAS SO AWESOME. We also made electrical circuits and made confetti stick on a pipe. After a while we went to explore Motat. I had never been to Motat before so it was really interesting for me. I had so much fun in the mirror maze. It was so scary and my heart was pumping. I thought i was going to pass out. What a great trip!

Our Marvelous MOTAT trip!

Hi it's Room 14 here. We all went on an amazing tour around Motat. First of all we went into the classroom to learn about Electricity. I learnt that if you rub a balloon on your head your hair will stick up like a lion's main.We learnt  about conductors and eliminator's: conductors let electricity go through but eliminators don't let electricity come through. Electricity has to flow though a complete circuit to make the lightbulb work. Static electricity is blue.

Venus passed the sun

On Wednesday Room 14 watched Venus go around the sun. It is going to be a long time till it goes round again. When I  got home I had my dinner. My Mum, Dad, Artus and I watched the news. It kept on going on about other stuff. Then the ads came on. It exclaimed," Venus is going round the sun." and
people were wearing 3D glasses and some were looking through a telescope.  After that, Deal or No Deal
was on.  The lady Cindy was doing badly.

Venus passes the sun

On Wednesday, Venus passed the sun!  It comes around once in a century. I thought it was wicked. We checked it in the afternoon as well as the morning. In the morning it was at the top of the sun and later on in the day it was in the middle. Andrea ( my teacher ) told me that it came from the left of the sun even though it was on the right. We saw it on the projector. Once in a while it went blue and then red. My mum said if there were absolutely no clouds then it would go dark. The day before, I made a telescope so when I got  home I could look at it . So when I got home, I did.  I felt happy because it was cool-ish.                                                                                                                                                                                                  By Alice.

On Wednesday the sixth of June 2012, Room 14 watched Venus go across the sun. It was amazing and I will not be alive when it happens again. So, it was great to see it. It was really cool. It was on the news too. All I saw was just one red dot, the Sun, and one black dot, Venus, going across the sun. My picture is Venus going across the sun.

No time for Show and Tell? Use an iPad !

Phoenix brought in something very unique to share with the class. We ran out of time so James and Phoenix worked together and used the iPad to record the show and tell story.

First Phoenix wrote down what he wanted to share. James helped him with the writing process.

Then James used the iPad to record Phoenix reading his script.
They also took pictures using the iPad to share the unique show and tell.
They also made a comic strip using the Comic APP.

Finally Andrea imported their footage and made an iMovie.

James and Phoenix's next step is to make their own iMovie.

The Results are in....

Our homemade,handmade, recycled and well planned efforts paid off...and we placed a respectable 2ND place in the Scarecrow competition. St Joseph's, Grey Lynn came first and Westmere placed third.

We are really pleased to have won 2nd place as the scarecrows were all created by the children. 

The Scarecrows all come back to school next week and we will work with Dean and the Forest Team to place them around the school!

Room 14 Scarecrows

Hi everybody! Do you want to hear about how room 14 designed their own fabulous...scarecrows that went to a competition and went to compete with other schools? Yes ?  I knew you would say that. Now first we had to split into 6 groups out of the whole class. When we were finally sorted into our groups we had to put our ideas together. Then we had to draw our ideas together. Once that was all pushed aside our group shared our hard work to the class. You don't know what's going to happen later in the story. Just that very second day people had already brought things in for making our big scarecrows. Day after day the pile got bigger until all of us were ready to start cracking. We used old clothes, silky materials, string and other stuff. It was cool to see how other people could use there imagination and be so creative. By Friday these awesome things were ready to go to the competition and hopefully win. They are now at the plant nursery, Gardenco Plant Market on Great North Road. You can pop down there and have a nosey and see all of ours, and other school's designs.

How to eat a Lolly !

Andrea gave us a wrapped lolly and we had to write accurate instructions in order for us to enjoy the end result - eating the lolly. If our instructions weren't in the right order then we might miss out on actually eating the lolly. Let's see if we were successful.

Converting cms to mms...

We are learning to convert units of measurements.  We started with centimeters and worked with Andrea to learn how to convert them to millimeters. We then did some follow up measurements and then worked with a partner to come up with a strategy we can use on our own after we started to see patterns emerge.  Then we went back to Andrea to check our thinking and record our findings using the iPads.

The Measuring Machine

Today when I got up, Dad said that since I am doing measuring as a topic I might want to bring this measuring device that measures meters so I can measure how long it takes to get from                                 home to school. So I packed my bag and so on, got the measuring machine and went of to school. I guessed it would take a long time to get to school  -so four thousand meters but it was 568.3 meters.                                     I am going to try to make it up to 1000 meters.

On Saturday I went to my rugby. It was at Walker Park. We versed Pt Chev Pirates. I got three good tackles it was a close game. The other team won the score was a11 - 9.

Mothers day

On  Sunday  I  woke  up   really   early   and   went  to  the  lounge  and   watched   TV. Then  my  to  brothers    came   out   to   remind   me   it's   Mothers day   so   I    went    to   my  mum's   room   to  give  her   my   card. Then   my   dad   got   her  present. It  was  a  fishing  rod. Then  we  all  got  up  and  had  breakfast. Then  we  got  dressed  then  I  played  outside. I  had  to  wait  for  a  long  time  then  we  finally  went out.  When  I  went  in  there  was  lots  of  food  we  had  some. Then  I  played  with  the  elevator. It  was  fun  then  we  went  home. It  was  fun  today.

Thunder and lightning netball game.

On Monday the 14th of may, grey Lynn 4,the grey Lynn netball team, had a netball game against  west mere. My positions were wing attack, goal defence , goal keep and wing defence. First I was wing attack. After about ten minutes of the game everyone heard lightning and thunder. Then the alarm went. Everyone rushed for cover. Some people said that the game was over and some people from our team, including me said "I wish we could keep playing". Then to everyone's surprise we got back on. One  Westmere girl elbowed me in the face! Then we swapped again and again. After that we looked at the score board. We lost by 0 points. Then mum,who is the coach, announced who was player of the day. It was me! Mum gave me a bag of lollies and a certificate. Then I opened the lollies and handed them out. Mini me!!

On Friday before my cousins came  over I made me in my drawings. First I made the head and then the
body,legs and feet. Next  I had to cut it out which sounds easy but it's not at all I all so  had to sellotape them together  wich  is hader then the cuting. and that's how mini me came to life!

My trip to Canada.

Hi it's Emily. I am going to Canada this week and I am staying there for a year. I am very excited and nervous. It is a big thing we are doing we are going also because my mum is from Canada.We are going to stay in camper van. I am going to miss my friends and family but it least my Canadian  family will be there.
I will miss N.Z. (and pavlova my fave!)

Knock Down Tenpin Bowling

On Sunday me, Oska,Oliver and Kaya went to tenpin bowling. Once we got there dad paid and the person gave us our shoes and we got started. Kaya started. Oska went second. Oliver went third and I went last. On my first go I got a strike and on my second to last go was also a strike. I was amazed. After our 30 minute game we had chips. Dad gave us 6 tokens and two dollars. Oska went to Animal kasier. Well I did something sneaky. I went deal or no deal. I won 50 tickets. WOW! Since my luckier score I played again but I only won 23 tickets. Since I was greedy I went to one more game and lucky me, I won 50 tickets [I did not hijack it {I am to young}and I asked Oliver if he wanted to combine tickets and he said yes so I gave him my tickets and went to Oska. So we went to the ticket eater and me and Oliver had 143 tickets well Oska went bozom when he saw the number so we spend all our tickets and we went home.

My Friend's House

On Tuesday I went to my friend's house. At my friend I played on his ipod. After that we went to eat popcorn, cake, chips and some orange.Then we went outside and play on his platform around the tree. Then we went in the tree house. Next I went to play hoops. Then we play a game with the basketball then we went inside and played on his remote control car but then the car didn't work. We went in the living room and played on the Wii for 20 min.

The Wave Pool

On Friday we went to the pools with my  brothers Tama,Toru. It was a wave pool. After an hour the waves came on and it went really fast so we had to go on to a tub. A tub is like a donut that you can go down a slide it go really fast. One time I went down with the tub I fell off the tub and then my brother came down and kicked me. It was sore. When I got to the top of the slide, the diving board was open and I was the first one there. On my first jump I did a front flip into the pool and it was SORE! and my back was all red and we had to go up a really hard step it was all blue. My next bomb as big but my big brother went higher then mine, but the next bomb that I did it went high like my brothers. Then my brother went to the spa. When he got there I went to the spa too an I made a friend. He came from Rotorua and he is really good at doing bombs that go really high that the splash touches the roof. We had pizza then we had to go back into the pool and then the bombing was closed but the waves came on. I felt  happy because we had a great time at the pools.

Italian pizza.

On Friday  me and my family went to an Italian restaurant. My dad opened the door. I heard the rush of the noisiest sound I had heard in my day .Then I smelt pizza and pasta all together. Soon we were at a table ordering drinks.This is what I had for drink: one orange juice. My sister had an apple juice. For starters we had cheese on bread. We always have that.A few minutes later I had finished my juice and popped the last bread crust into my mouth. For mains I ordered a pizza. It was called Forest. While we were waiting I bit something and my wiggly tooth started to bleed. I said, "excuse me for a sec..." I rushed to the bathroom.I looked in the mirror. One two ...three!I had pulled my tooth nearly free.I tried again. One two three .It did not come out so I pulled a little bit harder and it came out.For a few seconds I just stood there doing nothing.Then I rushed out the door back to the table where  were I was siting.I told my mum and my dad and my sister my tooth came out.They said awesome!Soon we were going home.It was about 9 o clock.When we got home I was sooooo tired because I had a long day.

The Evil Rabbit.

My rabbit is really evil,

A week ago she dug a hole in the garden and ran FREE!

At first my mum called my grandma and said:"Come over! The rabbit's gone!" This all happened when I was at school so my mum told me in the evening all about it.

When I saw her shopping list it said: crackers, milk,cheese and RABBITS!?

That really made me freak out and worried. In the end, she was herded back into her cage and had a quite severe punishing. I think she is the most cheeky rabbit in the world.

Harry's Holiday

 On the Easter Holidays me, Mum, and my two sisters went to my cousins for Easter. It was a long drive      
there and I felt sick from eating so much chocolate. Finally we got there and I was feeling so tired. I don"t know that my sisters are tired but I was.
The first thing we did was sprinting into the Bush. When we got to the water fall we drank flowing
water.  Then we saw fresh water Crayfish we planned tomorrow that we'd catch them. 2 hours later after
our big adventure we went back to their House and had dinner.

Taylor =Swift

On  Friday me  and my dad went to see Taylor Swift.  First we got a lift from my mum and brother. When we got to the Vector Arena we found our seats. Then we went and went to the merchandise. I got  two tops and a book. Once we got  our stuff and went  to our seat  as soon Hot Chelle Ray, the opening band ,came on and after that Taylor Swift came on. Everybody screamed. Finally we went home at 11 o'clock. I wish I could go next time.

On Saturday I went to Taylor Swift's concert with my Dad . When we got there I bought a program and a t shirt. When we got in to the stadium my ears were blown of my head. It was amazing. At the end, Taylor Swift looked me in the eye and waved. I love Taylor Swift!

My New House

On Monday when I went home my mum and  dad told me that we would be moving house. Then I ran all around the house and then I fell and I got back up again and started running around and around and around and around. We will be moving house on Easter Friday. I am so exited.

Bmx-ing

On the weekend me and my sister walked to the BMX track. My sister rode her mountain bike and I rode my bmx. I did twenty laps and my sister did one, of course. After that we went to the local dairy and got ice blocks and went home. At home we played MX VS ATV Unleashed, which is a PS2 game, and then went to bed. What a wonderful day!

The Skytower

Two weeks ago on Sunday me, mum, Liam and my cousin's Paige and Hannah went to the Sky Tower. When we got there we went into the building. Then we went down the escalator and we were in the Sky Tower. After that we went to the counter and got the tickets. Then we got a photo and went into the lift. When we got out of the lift we looked out of the window and my cousins were scared and Liam made them walk over glass and they didn't want to so Liam pushed them onto the glass. After, we went to the cafe and had a drink then we went down the lift and went back home.

I wonder where I'm going on the Mystery Trip?

Someday on the weekend I am going on a mystery trip. I wonder where I'm going? I think I am going on a bus or a train or a boat or a taxi? And I think I am going somewhere close to the harbour. I am going with Mr Barker, our principal and two other boys. We won it by selling raffle tickets for our school fundraiser. I think I am going to Waiheke ,or mabye not. It is a mystery so who knows? I wonder where I am going to go? Why don't you have a guess and I will let you know after I get back !

ALOHA NIGHT!!!

 I was so excited and nervous about Aloha night that I almost wet my pants. When the whole school was there we got in to lines and one by one we went up to the court to do the party rock dance. Then our class did the Samoan group performance. My mum gave me $60.00. I ran of with my friend Jack and we had lots of fun. We got lots of glow stuff and we stuck them to our scooters. We went to the darkest part in the school where stuff looks like starts moving around. Then we got some food. It was so good  but we had to go because I had a birthday party in the morning but I loved it.

Too much sugar!

 On Aloha night I had to much sugar. I ate red berries and I'm not allowed to eat red berries because I am allergic to them. ! I ran wild but then I got tired. My sister got alot of bling and didn't share. I got my hair sprayed blue! I felt tired because I ran wild!

My awesome weekend

After the awesome Aloha I went home with my brother and played with my Lego and ate LOADS of sweet, gooey lollies. After a hour of Lego, me and my brother had to....brush our teeth, have a shower, get into my boxers and go to bed. 12 hours later I got up and woke Oska up. Oska gets cranky when I don't wake him up! I gave dad a hug and went to play Minecraft. I made a television and Herobrine with a light saber!  When it was Oska's turn he made a 3rd layer of his tree hut with diamond, iron ingot and gold ingot. 9 minutes later Dad came in and shut the computer down and went to the TV. And we pretty much stayed there for the whole day. On Sunday I went to Grey Lynn park and biked all along the park.When we had finished me and Oska saw Luca. I played soccer with him and went to his house and bounced on the tramp. Sadly,1 minute later Dad came and said "we have to go now" so I said good bye to Luca and went home.

Last Saturday I went to Rainbows End with a friend Asten Chicky and my brother Artus . The first ride we went on was the pirate  ship it was AWESOME. The next thing we did was when we put the ball in the clowns mouth I got a ...... Rubics cube and it broke . After that we went to the bumper cars it was very stressful. I was in my own accident and got turned around. After that we had coke and chips.

A great and Addicting Day

 On the weekend me and my sister Jaime started to make a robot.  It was a great idea. I got 2 boxes, 10 pieces of paper, 4 toilet rolls, 1roll of tinfoil,and 2 tinfoil rolls. First we painted the ipod. Then we painted the earplugs. Next we wrapped the 2 tinfoil rolls in tinfoil. Next we folded the paper and attached it to the bottom of the box same with arms. I  haven't it finished yet but I will this weekend. Bye

My watch ran out!

On the weekend I made a digital watch. I took a lemon and cut it in half then put a zest plate in each half. I also put a metal fork in each half and connected a wire to a zest and a fork. After I took the inside of a watch, I put a red and blue on it . I put the blue on the other zest and red on the other fork .  IT  WORKED!

My Drum Lesson

On  Monday I had my drum lesson .  I learnt  a part  from my  favourite  song,  Star ships  by Nicki mansh.  My teacher said it will take 4 weeks and I today I will get  my new drumsticks and a lollipop .  It acshly took 3 weeks to learn the song.

On Wednesday I went to my piano lesson in Mt Roskill. My favourite piece is Do-re-mi. I also watch the movie sound of music. My favourite note a  is quaver because they are racing, running notes. I am also learnt. I also have jingle bells. I can't wait until next piano lesson.

A normal day

Yesterday it was a really normal day. Before school I had a sleep in like always. Next I had my Weatbix                                      
(at least six) and then I got dressed and went to school. After school I did my spelling and maths
homework. Then I had dinner and went to bed.

Going to Grandmas

I went to my grandmas and when I got there I ate sweet corn.
Me and my sister got an apple out of the fridge then we went outside. Then
I got two more apples and hit the apples together and then I had another half of a sweet corn then I went to sleep.

The Amazing Robob.

Last Friday James and I stared making a robot. It's name is Robob.  His body is bright purple. The body is made from one of my old lego sets. He has a mini ipod with a picture of Maroon 5 on it's body. His head is made from and old shoe box which looks like a dragon. His arms are made from a long paper roll and small ones for the legs with a cut in half milk bottles as it's feet. He has 2 canines and giant eyes.

Doing Aloha night

My class is going  to do the  umu. They put pumpkins in it and banana leaves and rocks.  Next the school will perform. There is lots of culture dancing. There is also candy floss. I like it.

Sunday skateboarding

On Sunday I went  skateboarding. First I was just about to get on my skate board when my friend Brian came and said hello. Then we got on our  skateboards and vroom and we took off .

Aloha night

Guess what's coming to Grey Lynn school?  Aloha night !  On Aloha  night you get glow sticks and ice cream. There is even lots of food and lots of drinks. And my class is the Samoan group.and were doing Evey day I'm Shuffling song and were having an umu.
