Warm Fuzzy?

The warm fuzzie club.
Introducing the warm fuzzie club.
In our class we have been learning how to make a REAL booster statements so we made the warm fuzzie club. We get to put up our warm fuzzy if we say something positive to someone else. Our reward is we feel good inside for making someone else feel good.

We have a warm fuzzie board and everyday our warm fuzzie police record the people's names.

So far we have had a lot of people giving warm fuzzies.

Feel free to pop in and get all warm and fuzzie too!

Wordle

What is a wordle?  A wordle is another way of organising ideas and words into a word cloud. Wordle choose the layout and you can adapt it, but it cannot be made into pre-froemd shapes like Tagxedo.
Wordle also makes words bigger if they appear more than once. We discovered that this was a good way to see what words help define a topic. It also showed us that a lot of us had the same ideas about celebrations.

For example, when we did a wordle for celebrations, using the same words we did for Tagxedo, certain words were BIGGER!  We decided that this meant that these words were more important in our brainstorm about celebrations. What do you think?

Celebrations Using Tagxedo

We have been learning about celebrations. Today we listed all the celebrations we could think of. We also wrote our four favorite celebrations, but first we brainstormed and used different web based programs to display our learning.
Molly

First we used tagxedo. Tagxedo makes word clouds. It can organise your words into shapes. We chose shapes that reflected our Celebrations unit.

Here they are:

A tagxedo in the shape of a pumpkin for the Celebration of Hallowe'en.

Tagxedo in the shape of Cupid for the Celebration of love - Valentine's Day.

On your mark...get set...go!

Today we did our athletics practice. We have 2 weeks until our athletics day. After we did our run we reflected on our performance.

Here are our list of positives and things to work on. We are going to do this again tomorrow and see if we can improve on the list.

Room 14

Our PE Athletics Practise

Positives:
None of us had a big fuss if we came last
There were no false starts.
We all tried our hardest.
We all competed.
Everybody tried.
We ran our hardest.
We weren't silly during on you mark get set and go
We all remembered each step
 Did it correctly
We got organised into our age groups by ourselves.
We all had our toes behind the line.

Things we need to work on:
Sometimes we wriggled during "get set"
We need to run in our own lanes
When we are running we need to focus straight ahead
Not tripping anybody up
Working as a team
Celebrate in a nice way!
Don 't rub it in it in someone's face.
Keep your hands off the track when others are running.

Oww, my Appendix !

Why do we need our appendix??????? Anyway I don't have my appendix anymore so I don't have to worry about a thing. On the first day of school, term 4,  I found myself in the hospital with appendicitis's AHHH. It was so frightening.  But I did it anyway I went into hospital at 6 o, clock and I was in theatre at 11 o, clock. It all happened so quickly I had no time to even think about it. I am so glad its over.

A mysterious mystery letter!

On spooky Wednesday the 31st, also Halloween, Room 14 received a very mysterious message from three tricky, but ghostly people. They named themselves the secret pumpkin gang so we suspect that they obviously don't want us to know their names. Very mysterious. Hmmm? It has a card with a black glittery tree, pumpkins hanging from it and lights hanging from it with sticky jewels as lights. We are  trying to find out who wrote this ghostly letter. All we know is it says this: Dear room 14 and Andrea, have a frightfully good time! And a ghostly treat! from the pumpkin gang. So its a big mystery. Oh,and Andrea is our most   wonderful teacher ever. If you wrote the message please tell us by writing a comment. Kate, Bryan and Andrea all received one. Kate and Bryan are teachers too. I wonder....

In Room 14 we have been experimenting with different ways of learning.  We created an "I wonder" wall where we just wonder about things. We will try to answer some of them but we talked about how some questions may never have answers.

We were inspired to wonder after listening to Will i AM's new song, Reach for the Stars, that was broadcast live from Mars. Yes. We said Mars, as in the red planet, as in outer space.
We did a Venn diagram to compare us and Will i AM and we discovered we have a lot of the same qualities. Will i AM never stopped wondering about things and now his music was the first ever sent from outer space.

Have you ever wondered about anything? Share them with us.

Enjoy the movie. It was our first try at using the green screen.

Native Canadian Art

We have been learning about Canada and the last week we have been looking at one of Andrea's favourite artists, Andy Everson. She met him when she went to Comox (in Canada) 3 years ago. He is a dancer and an artist and works hard to keep his culture alive.

We really like how he mixes his traditional art with modern items in society as well.

We made a movie of our Kid Pix art. WALT try to draw an accurate rendition of one of Andy's work and also choose the correct tools for the desired effect.

Enjoy!

Respect

This week our school focus is to be respectful to the people we play and work with. We discussed this in class and we decided to use the Alphabet Key to come up with qualities and words that we can use to show respect.

Let's see what you think !

Accepting Belonging Compliments Discussing Excellence Focussed Giving Helpful Including Joining Kindness Listening Manners Negotiate Open-minded Positivity Quiet Reminding Sensible Teaching Understanding Values Whispering volume level eXtraordinary Yes Zealous

And there you have it. An alphabetic guide to being respectful in Room 14 and Grey Lynn School.

Seeing Sally Rippin

On Friday me and Violet went to Room 16 to see the Author of Billy B Brown, who is Sally Rippin. The year 1 2 3 and 4 were there. She told us about what she was like when she was young.
Hopefully Sally Rippin turns out being one of the best authors.

But at the moment my favourite author is Sally Rippin.
She really just lives in Melbourne (Australia.) She read one Billy B Brown book which isn't even in shops.
The book she read was Billy B Brown and the loose tooth. That book was awesome.

Granting wishes during the night
Floating next to the moon.

and people wishing for stuff
like triangles on the side of the star.

Shining so bright you can hardly believe your eyes
What a twinkling surprise.
