The Osasis of the seas

The Osasis of the Seas is a cruise ship the biggest one. It took 6 years to build.
It had a wave slide ladder with 22 pools and 5,000 passengers and 2,000 crew. I have been on a cruise ship before but just a tour, its name was called Pacific Pearl. by Rio

If I were a explorer

If I were an explorer I would explore my mind and let it go free and run with it. I would see all the patterns in my mind, and find all the pigs.(I like pigs) I would cuddle all the fluffy toys and monsters, in my memories. I would paint the best picture in the world. I would run free and explore massive parts of my mind.

The strange creature and his car

The strange creature and his car
Once there a boy named Michael. One night in his deep sleep he woke up in the middle of the night and saw shadows all over his room. Then he noticed the window was open. He jumped to close it but just as he got there a strange looking creature came in.  Then he jumped under his bed. The creature jumped down onto his desk and then onto the ground when the creature went out of the room. Michael climbed out of under his bed and closed the window. The creature was in the kitchen trying to open the pantry. As mum heard a sound from the pantry, she ran downstairs. An  evil robot appeared and picked up the creature and threw it through the door and they lived happily ever after.

This was Jonty and Weston's first buddy blog session. They wrote it on their own and saved their work for the teacher to upload later. This story took 20 minutes to write.

Class birds

Jolie,, Dawn, Pop and Alexandra
One day our class got pet budgies. The white budgie is called Dawn and the green budgie is called Pop. They are very chirpy while we are doing our work. We are not allowed to put our fingers near the cage. At the end of the day we make sure they have enough  food and water for the night. We should always keep our hands closed when we put our hands in the cage. Our teacher takes them home for the weekend.

We really love the budgies.

Publishing with Wordle

First I wrote in the boxes of the paper and came up with words to describe myself. Then I finished filling them in. When I had my turn on wordle, I wrote what was on my paper into the box on the computer. After that I looked at what my bio poem could look like. By Zylah

Learning about HTML Language

On Friday I learned how to publish my bio poem on Wordle and to do HTML language.

I liked publishing this way because I didn't know how to do this before and I like learning new things.

Writing poetry is as fun as eating a purple lollipop on the back of an elephant!

Very funny!  The title is a simile and we have been learning to write them and use them in our poetry and narrative writing.

See if you can guess who these children are before they pop out from behind their picture. Enjoy their simile poems about themselves.

Simile Poems

We are finishing our Poetry Unit by writing similes about ourselves. A simile is when you compare two things using like or as

Have fun watching our movie and see if you can guess who it is before they pop out from behind their picture.

Enjoy!

The Stinky Linky Poem

Stinky linky sucking his binky,

Rolling down the stairs eating his pears,

It's seeming that he's gleaming,

for no apparent reason in such a cold season,

riding on his tricycle with his mum on her bicycle,

icicle falling on their heads,

time to go to sleep now let's get in our beds.

Bye bye for now see you soon.

A Dream Come True

A dream come true would be to have 100 kittens with little mittens
And we lived in a Candy Land with an awesome band
but thats not all we would want.
We could have our own kingdom and we would be the queens.
A dream come true.
We would use the force and we would have a beautiful horse.
A 1000 pounds in the castle grounds.
And thats what we would dream.

The Mysterious Wood.

The Mysterious Wood.

Flap flap flap went the wings of a butterfly in the magic garden. That garden belonged to Fairyland. All the plants in Fairyland were covered in either snow drops or rain drops. New Fairies were born once a week, but as new Fairies were born they started to want to go on more and more adventures. They started to walk, then run, then they started to fly into the woods! And they meet lots and lots of different types of animals to be friends with. And as they kept walking it started to get dark and started  raining. They had to go home with one of their friends.  Their friend was Wizard. Finally they were at Wizard's house. In their bedroom the Fairies saw a mysterious looking door and so they tried to open it. but it was locked. The next day they went home to have fun.

It's all about Practise!

Room 16 has been working hard on their basic facts and improving their speed.

We have joined Sumdog Maths which is a fun way to practise all maths. When we get enough points we can go into the online shop and buy fun things for our character.
We have also entered the Sumdog contest where we will challenge other students in Auckland. It starts on July 5th.

http://www.sumdog.com

We have also started using, Are you a Maths Magician site to practise our times tables. In Year 3 we need to know our 1,2 and 5 times tables automatically.

http://www.oswego.org/ocsd-web/games/mathmagician/mathsmulti.html

We will report how the contest goes after July 12th.

Planet Roll Call

Here is our poem of the week. Read along and see if you can find the rhyming words!

Planet Roll Call
Eight planets around the sun,
Listen as I call each one:
Mercury? Here! Number one,
Closest planet to the sun.
Venus? Here! Number two,
Shining bright, just like new!
Earth? Here! Number three,
Earth is home to you and me.
Mars? Here! Number four,
Red and ready to explore!
Jupiter? Here! Number five,
Largest planet, that’s no jive.
Saturn? Here! Number six,
With rings of dust and ice that mix.
Uranus? Here! Number seven,
A planet tilted high in heaven.
Neptune? Here! Number eight,
With one dark spot whose size is great.

How many tens?

In maths we have been learning how many tens are in a number. We used rods so we could see how many tens make up a number. Then we drew it on our whiteboards. After we took a picture with the ipad. Andrea will print the pictures to keep in our modelling books so we can go back and see it if we need to remember. Then we drew it using kid pix on our own to show that we understand it.

Fitness Freaks and iMovie

We have been learning to keep fit by moving our bodies for 10 minutes everyday. When it's raining outside, we do aerobics videos.

We are also learning how to make iMovie trailers. Trailers are the little snippets of up and coming movies. You usually see them before you watch a movie in the cinema. We made one together today. We are going to be making our own this term. We are so excited!

Enjoy the fitness and the movie trailer.

Before we take off into Space...

...Let's find out what we already know!

We did a KWL chart and recorded all the things we know or thought we knew about Space.

A KWL chart help sort your thinking so you know what direction your learning will take.

K - What we KNOW
W - What we WANT to know/learn.
L - What we have LEARNED.

Then we recorded them using PhotoBooth and then dropped them into iMovie.

Next we filled in the W - What we want to learn about Space. Our next step is to figure out how we will find the answers to our questions.

When we have answered our questions then we will record our new knowledge in the L part - what we have learned.

Please leave us a comment and share your facts about Space.
