Shannon the ocean fairy
Hi everyone I am going to tell you about my favourite book. The book is called Shannon the ocean fairy. It is about a fairy that got her enchanted pearls back with help from two friends Rachel and Kirsty. They went on dolphins around ocean. Shannon is very pretty fairy. She has lovely gold hair and a lovely pink skirt and a lovely green top. I wish I was like her and she was my friend. Thank you for reading my story bye. By Hollie
All about warm fuzzies
Warm fuzzies are for our manners so we stay focused and so we are all quiet. They're are different warm fuzzies like big fuzzies or medium fuzzies or small fuzzies or rainbow fuzzies. It works like this: room 16 gets a booster statement, we get a rainbow fuzzie. If we are all quiet we get a small fuzzie. If we're all focussed, room16 gets a medium fuzzie. If we use our manners we get a big fuzzie. The fuzzies have helped us to be more focussed I class.
Sumdog
Sumdog is a maths game where you can get money to buy cool clothes for your avatar. You can play against other people.Lots of people around the world play Sumdog every day! Sumdog is a great learning game to play and it's more fun than games like minecraft.I love playing SumDog. It's like a game made by famous inventors!

Our Budgies
Room 16 has budgies called Dawn and Pop.My job is to look after them, the first time I put my hand in their cage I was a bit scared that they were going to bite me.But when I put my hand in for the first time they flew to the other side of the cage.I was really relieved that they were scaredy budgies because all the other budgies I know bite you the minute my hand touches the cage. Now I'm not scared at all because I've been doing it for a few weeks but we are going to change the jobs soon so I better not get that used to it!

Our budgies
Our budgies are really cute because they are always cleaning each other and taking out their feathers. Pop is the green bird and Dawn is the white one. Dawn really likes food and Pop is always helping Dawn with her feathers. At the moment Dawn is the one that has lots of feathers coming out. I like having budgies in room 16. By Zylah.
The Class Budgies
In room 16 we have two budgies called Pop and Dawn. Their favourite food is silverbeet. Sometimes when they eat silverbeet they have green poo! Sometimes the budgies chirp when we are working. They go home on Friday with my teacher Andrea. They are Andrea's son Theo's. Theo has the responsibility to look after them and clean up the cage after the week. Pop is green, yellow and blue and Dawn is all white. When Dawn is eating out of the bowl she has to go in it. If there is something like silver beet in the cage Pop starts flying around and Dawn starts making horrible sounds and it starts a fight! But they are usually calm. Andrea sometimes has to move so that they are not just going for one area in the cage. The buggies can sometimes be really funny but Andrea said we can't laugh really hard because the other classes are working. It is usually hard to not laugh because sometimes they do something really funny and you just can't help it. Well if you have budgies you'll know what I'm talking about. So I hope you like jokes. So I think if you like jokes I think budgies are the thing for you,it's just the cleaning. By Jonty
My Favourite Garden at Grey Lynn School
My favourite garden
My favourite garden is nice and green it also has a big spot were you can sit.
When you sit there you can hear little birds there so pretty because they have lots of
colours. The flowers there are a flouro orange! There's only one tree there but that's ok.

My Favourite Place
My favourite place is the Memory garden in Grey Lynn school,Grey Lynn.
Why,because it is a very relaxing place to be with all the Birds singing.
Another reason is because it is very historical and I like painting pictures about it in my head and I like thinking about it.
By Noah
My Favourite Playground
The playground is my favourite place in the school because whenever me and my friends play on it we make up new games and it's loud, which I like, but not our teacher Andrea. The cool thing about the playground is that whenever me and my friends are playing on it we never fight.

Inventions Key and Swimsuits for Chickens!
We really enjoyed reading Funny Frank by Dick King Smith. It is from our school library. Frank is born a cockerel but he wants to be a duck. A little girl finds him and wants to help him so she asks her mum to make something fro Frank to swim like a duck.
We used the invention key to design our own suits for Frank. We used labels to show the parts and designed many different suits that we thought would work for Frank.
Enjoy the slideshow.

Does a Giraffe have a blue tongue and other questions during writing!
In Guided Writing time we write with Andrea in small groups. We do our best writing here. We all talk about what we want to write and how we're going to do it. We help each other with ideas and then we get on with our writing.
If we get stuck on a work, we have a try at spelling it in our Try Book. If it's right then we can get on with our writing. If we still need help spelling it then we have a mini spelling lesson with Andrea. Once we have learned the word then we can get on with our writing.
It's the same process with our handwriting. If we do a letter the facing the wrong direction then we do a mini handwriting lesson as well. We fix up the wonky letter and then get on with our writing.
Sometimes during writing we get stuck on what to do next or we have a question about something particular.
For example, we were writing animal riddles and we needed accurate facts about them. We used the ipads to look at images, or facts and then we get on with our writing.
We say that a lot during guided writing. We have a lot of tools we can use so we can "get on with our writing."

Eco Warriors in Action
Room 16 is participating in the Tui Garden Challenge. We have adopted the garden behind our classroom and where students park their scooters.
We are using the Inquiry Process to investigate how we will transform the garden to help answer our big question this term: What's Bugging Us?
We discovered that a lot of the native bugs and birds at Grey Lynn School have disappeared...prbably due to all the construction and noise. We are trying to figure out what plants need to go in the garden to attract the right bugs for the birds to eat.
We will keep you updated on our progress. In the meantime, visit our Blog below on the Tui Garden website where we will be posting updates.

Focussed Learning
One of Room 16s goals is to be focussed learners at our desks. This means when we are at our desks we are only doing things that will support our learning.
Here is our brainstorm:
When we are "caught" being focussed workers, Andrea tells us to go and visit the Focussed Learning Basket. Inside the basket are lots of things we can wear or put on our desks as a reward for being a focussed learner. There is Good Luck Duck, Focus Bears, Focus glasses, champion medals, tiaras (the boys love these) and a lot more. At the end of the block, we exchange the reward for a sticker on our chart. We all have the same chance at getting caught being a focussed worker. It's OUR choice!

If I were a explorer
If I were an explorer I would explore my mind and let it go free and run with it. I would see all the patterns in my mind, and find all the pigs.(I like pigs) I would cuddle all the fluffy toys and monsters, in my memories. I would paint the best picture in the world. I would run free and explore massive parts of my mind.

The strange creature and his car
The strange creature and his car
Once there a boy named Michael. One night in his deep sleep he woke up in the middle of the night and saw shadows all over his room. Then he noticed the window was open. He jumped to close it but just as he got there a strange looking creature came in. Then he jumped under his bed. The creature jumped down onto his desk and then onto the ground when the creature went out of the room. Michael climbed out of under his bed and closed the window. The creature was in the kitchen trying to open the pantry. As mum heard a sound from the pantry, she ran downstairs. An evil robot appeared and picked up the creature and threw it through the door and they lived happily ever after. by Jonty and Weston

The Stinky Linky Poem
Stinky linky sucking his binky,
Rolling down the stairs eating his pears,
It's seeming that he's gleaming,
for no apparent reason in such a cold season,
riding on his tricycle with his mum on her bicycle,
icicle falling on their heads,
time to go to sleep now let's get in our beds.
Bye bye for now see you soon.

A Dream Come True
A dream come true would be to have 100 kittens with little mittens
And we lived in a Candy Land with an awesome band
but thats not all we would want.
We could have our own kingdom and we would be the queens.
A dream come true.
We would use the force and we would have a beautiful horse.
A 1000 pounds in the castle grounds.
And thats what we would dream.

The Mysterious Wood.
Flap flap flap went the wings of a butterfly in the magic garden. That garden belonged to Fairyland. All the plants in Fairyland were covered in either snow drops or rain drops. New Fairies were born once a week, but as new Fairies were born they started to want to go on more and more adventures. They started to walk, then run, then they started to fly into the woods! And they meet lots and lots of different types of animals to be friends with. And as they kept walking it started to get dark and started raining. They had to go home with one of their friends. Their friend was Wizard. Finally they were at Wizard's house. In their bedroom the Fairies saw a mysterious looking door and so they tried to open it. but it was locked. The next day they went home to have fun.

Planet Roll Call
Here is our poem of the week. Read along and see if you can find the rhyming words!
Planet Roll Call
Eight planets around the sun,
Listen as I call each one:
Mercury? Here! Number one,
Closest planet to the sun.
Venus? Here! Number two,
Shining bright, just like new!
Earth? Here! Number three,
Earth is home to you and me.
Mars? Here! Number four,
Red and ready to explore!
Jupiter? Here! Number five,
Largest planet, that’s no jive.
Saturn? Here! Number six,
With rings of dust and ice that mix.
Uranus? Here! Number seven,
A planet tilted high in heaven.
Neptune? Here! Number eight,
With one dark spot whose size is great.
