Talofa Lava World!

Talofa and welcome to Samoan Language Week..

In Room 10 we are experiencing the sights, sounds and lifestyle of Samoa. On Monday we learned how to tie a lava lava and see if we could sit on the mat. We also got to use fans that Andrea brought from Samoa.

Sick

On Monday. I could not go to school because I was sick. On Sunday I vomited. When I was in bed on Sunday I was not feeling good. Funny thing I was thinking about I could not walk, but when I got up I could walk but my head was going left and right, left and right. I went to the my mum's room and cuddled up. Then I saw my brother on the tablet. If you do not know what a tablet is it is an ipad, but I was not going to the kitchen to go on the tablet, I was going to get the ipad so I got the ipad and went to the fridge and got a water bottle and drank and drank. Sleepover

On Saturday I had a sleepover. We played with clay and then Nicola came home and gave us some pictures .We started cleaning and  we had dinner and watched a movie called Matilda.We  got bored of Matilda so we watched H20. Then  we went to bed. In the morning they  dropped me off.

Netball Competition

On  Monday I was in a netball competition and we were playing against Westmere. My position was GS,  WA, GD, and GK. My first position was WA and GD. I didn't like GS and GK. The score was 4- 6 and we lost. Well that was OK .The player of the was Sofia . By Stella

A penguins life cycle

Hello my name is Poppy and I wanted to share with you a penguins life cycle.
In January to March the adults fee. The things that they eat is salmon, sardines and other fish. In April they march as loud an elephant to rookery 60 to 100 miles in two hours. In may they do mating. Mating means that they make babies. In June and July they put their eggs between their skinny and cozy little legs. In August the baby chicks hatch. Crack! crack! The baby chicks hatch. In September to October they feed their chicks. In November they feed there chicks. Lastly the males go away. I love penguins!

How to be Yourself

Invisible Isabelle

Isabelle got a sewing kit for her 7'th Birthday.The next day she made a new outfit and wore it to the  first day of school. The school bus came at eight twenty two. When she got on the bus the children laughed. Later on when she got to school the chatter twins laughed and sneered"your bag is so weird". When she got into class she sat down. The boy next to her said"look a clown"and everybody laughed. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!! Then a ball rang Miss Stanley took role Isabelle went to the restrooms and threw all the new outfit in the bin. Then she went to the art room Miss Frizzle said"Isabelle is that you?" So she went and got some art supplies and she made it a new outfit. When she put it on poof she was visible again!

Story of Invisible Isabelle

This week is anti-bullying week and today we watched Invisible Isabelle. It's about a girl named Isabelle who got a sewing kit for her birthday. The next morning she woke up early and started to sow some clothes. When it was time for her to get on the bus everyone teased and made fun of what she was wearing. When she arrived at her class everyone else teased her. They called her a clown and laughed at her. She raced to the restroom and threw all her clothes that she had knitted in the bin then she only had her normal clothes on when she looked in the mirror she didn't see anything when her best friend Becky came in she screamed at her Becky didn't even blink Isabelle entered the art room and sat down to cry and said I'm invisible and don't know why just then the art teacher sensed she was in the room. Listen well or you'll be stuck invisible forever the problem is that you've lost your self expression but if you always follow and never take the lead you'll never find what you truly need now start making a new outfit said the art teacher. This time she made it with blue roses POOF! She appeared wow said the art teacher. All the other days her outfits came famous. That's the end. 
The message from the story is don't bully people and always be your true self!

Here are our easter bunny art. We learnt about zentangle art and how it is all about being delicate and intricate - which Andrea said is basically being careful, creative and mindful while drawing. 

We were all very calm and quiet while doing our designs because we are learning about being mindful and being in the moment.

Making Flower Crowns

I went to the Kelmana gardens and I got a flower crown. I saw Trixie there and I saw Amelia too. They are my best friends but then it was time to go and I went all the way home. We went to Animates to see the pets there and my favourite is the cats .

ECR - Enchanted Chainsaw Rampage

Every Monday The Witty Wordsmiths, Anya, Evie, Torin and Olive, get a new story starter from the website FaboStory and then we're challenged to write the middle and end to the story. On Friday Andrea enters them into the writing competition and hopefully, one of us wins.

Maureen’s Story Starter (the story starter that was sent to us)

The school caretaker looked at the remains of his storage shed. “What a mess.” He shook his head. Scientists were calling it a localised earthquake. There was the heap of rubble in front of him.
Very localised, he thought. Just his shed.

The principal patted his arm. “I’m sorry. The insurance company is calling it an Act of God so they won’t pay out any money to help us rebuild it.”

“All my tools were in there,” the caretaker sighed. “The school tractor is under there and the mower…. All the paint and the pool chemicals are in there too….”

There was a slight shifting in the bricks and dirt then a slide of debris cascaded down.

The principal backed away quickly.

The caretaker stared in horror. “Oh no! I forgot I left….”

Anya's story starts here....

Finish the story here:: "my enchanted chainsaw in that broken shed!"shouted the caretaker."Oh no!The rocks are going to hit the button of the chainsaw!" exclaimed the principal. The caretaker smirked. "Mwuhahahaha!" laughed the caretaker .Then RIP!The caretaker ripped off his clothes .He was an evil scientist!"Evil Mc Glee's the name... enchanting things is my game. "Charmed Evil Mc Glee." Mr help me!"cried the principal."NO!" shouted Evil mc Glee."my chainsaw will kill you!" Suddenly the principal put his hand in front of him like he was using the force. The chainsaw went flying towards Evil mc Glee and it hit him! Evil mc Glee turned into a goat!?!"baaa baa ba baaa*" Baa-ed Evil Mc Glee. The goat ran away out of the school." Well no more caretaker, but only a goat"sighed the principal. "Should we turn the school into a petting zoo?" asked a kid who just came out of class. "Maybe so." replied the principal. The next day as you all know ,no more school but a new petting zoo.*you will pay for that.

My fabo story

In room ten I have been getting story starters and I have to finish it. I have a group and we go into Andrea's office and do a brainstorm together and as a group we decide what we want in our story and then the next day we start writing. We only have a week to finish it so on Friday we give it to Andrea and we write it on the computer and then publish it. It then goes into a competition and the best story wins. On Monday we find out if we have won or not.

The new classes

At Grey Lynn school, Mr Barker wants the old classes to go to make room  for eight new classes. Mr Barker wants all the Kowhai classes to be knocked down and we are going to go up to the field. Soon then we are moving to the field. We are moving in term  two and that's this year. It's exciting. By Leo

Poppy's Baby bird's Nest

At my nana's house my nana found a bird nest.And my mum had to go to Australia so my nana looked after me and my sister while my mum went to Australia.So when my mum was away me my nana and my sister watching TV we cut the bird nest out of the rose bush.Once we got it out we put in a box.when we went to go pick up my mum up I brought the bird nest with us.When my mum came out of the airport I showed her my bird nest my mum was surprised. She said WOW because she'd never ever seen a bird nest that big. And then we left and brought it to school.

They worked in groups to come up with a group statement about what they thought having a growth mindset was.

Bring Back the Monkeybars #BBMB

Most children bring a yummy lunch and a new bag to the first day of school. Ila and Jaya brought that, and more. They came to school armed to change the world...well, at least Grey Lynn Park. Over the summer they started a campaign and brought all their petitions, signs and badges to school o start the #BBMB movement. 

Jaya and Ila started a petition to bring back the monkey bars at Grey Lynn Park. They shared their idea at the first school assembly.

This goes to prove that it doesn't matter how small you are, speak out about a good cause and your voice is LOUD!!!!
