A poem inspired by sculpting a Canadian symbol into clay at the Art Station.

Beavers, beavers can hit leavers 
With their tails and they send mail. 
Moose, moose 
Chocolate mousse 
The enemies of the goose.

Cucumber the guinea pig.

Yesterday I got a guinea pig her name is....CUCUMBER!!!
She is six weeks old and is very cute.
The cat is far to interested in her and she lives in the bath!
Now I have three vegetables Pickles, Raddish and Cucumber how cute!
I love all of them so much.

MineCraft in PaperCraft!

In the weekend I made minecraft in PAPER CRAFT! The website was called http://minecraftpapercraft.com/. 
You can get stuff like blocks, items, characters, mobs and there are also specials and minis. Also you can get stuff like blocks and mobs from the Aether,and even mobs from the Mo' Creatures mod!  Oh, and I forgot to tell you! There are minecraft backgrounds (which is not paper craft).

2 Weeks ago my Dad and my baby brother Wilder went to the Amazing travelling photo booth in the DEPARTMENT store and went in there and got their photos taken. I like Wilder's expression in the picture.

Edmonton oilers

The Edmonton oilers are one of the hockey team. They have won 5 Stanley cups! They have to keep on adding silver to the Stanley cup so its hard for the players to lift it up. There was two famous hockey players Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier . The team is called the Oilers because the province Alberta that the Oilers are from, main resource is oil.

Seeing Sally Rippin

On Friday me and Violet went to Room 16 to see the Author of Billy B Brown,who is Sally Rippin.The year 1 2 3 and 4 were there.She told us about what she was like when she was young.
Hopefully Sally Rippin turns out being one of the best authors.
I don't know so many authors so I don't know what they are like?
But at the moment my favourite author is Sally Rippin.
She really just lives in Melbourne (Australia.) She read one Billy B Brown book which isn't even in shops.
The book she read was Billy B Brown and the loose tooth.That book was awesome.

Meeting Sally Rippin.

On Friday the 24th of August me and Romy went to room 16 to see Sally Rippin the author of Billy b brown and Hey Jack.
She told us all about her, and her family. I think she is one of the best authors ever!! 
I wish I could see Sally's home in Australia must be full of typing stuff, wow. It was great seeing her I bet you would feel the same way as me. She's the best!

My lobster!

Hi!My lobster is awesome because it's an amazing exo-skeleton. It  feels so soft!It's soft because the shell has been cooked on the BBQ. I love the way it moves when you hold it.I got it from Daikoku. It's a place in the city where they cook Japanese food in front of you on a bog BBQ. It was awesome!So every time I see a lobster shell on the table,I'm grabbing it!

Poetry in Room 14

WALT write original poems.

First we talked about what a poem is. Here are some of our thoughts:
*entertainment *expressive writing *feelings*emotions*a really short story*a message to other people*showing our thoughts * the best writing *

Then we wrote a class poem together using a website called Read Write Think. 

It helped us write our poem because it made us think of interesting words. It gave us topics to write about. It also gave us steps to work through. We brainstormed before we wrote because brainstorming gets our good ideas out of our head and onto paper. It also gives us a boost.

Our Totem Poles

We are finished our first attempt at drawing totem poles. We hope you like them.

First we looked at pictures of totem poles in a park in Vancouver called, Stanley Park. Then we watched a video on how to draw totem poles. After that we drew our own following the instructions. We did this in our drawing books.

Then we drew them on an A4 paper. Andrea then photocopied them and enlarged them onto A3.

We chose bright colours as the totem poles we saw in Stanely Park in Vancouver were brightly painted.

Now we are creating our own personal totems.

Letter to Valerie Adams

Thank you for winning a medal in the Olympics even if its silver but it's New Zealand gold. We love you all the same even if you didn't win the gold. At least you tried your hardest with all the pride you hold. I know you had a set back but does it matter? No. It matters that you tried. You are my champion and besides, you could win in Rio.

Books are cool. eh!

This term we are learning all about Canada. During shared reading and SSR we read and listen to a collection of Canadian books and stories that our teacher, Andrea, has collected.(she is from Canada) Some of her books are as old as she is (haha) and some were bought for her when she became a teacher. 

We are learning to respond to reading and write a blurb about a book to entice a reader to "pick up a book."

The Rugby World Cup came to visit!

We had an awesome surprise on Monday, August 6th. The Web Ellis trophy came to Grey Lynn school and we all got to have our photo with it, look at it, smell it, but not touch it. It is very precious.

Richie Mc Caw, the All Blacks captain had said that he wanted as many New Zealanders to see the cup as possible and share in it's glory.

It was smaller than we thought. It was shinier than we thought and it was also made of real gold.

What a great day.

THE OLYMPICS

So we all know what the Olympics is but do we know how long ago it started? Well I do. It all started 11 days 23 hours 45 min and 38 second ago well it least i think it did. Well my point is I want to go to the Olympics.  My favorite sport event is the sprints ,I also like the gymnastics . It must be really freaky doing the  Olympics. What if you fall down it would be so embarrassing. I know keep telling you but I wish I could go to the Olympics

My Favourite Book

My favorite book is Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. My favourite part was when Harry   met Voldemort in the graveyard .My 2 favourite characters are Harry and Voldemort. If I were in the book I would be saying go Harry!

Totem Poles

Today we learned all about Totem Poles found in Canada. We looked at some examples of totem poles all around Canada and we loved the ones found in British Columbia, which is on the West Coast of Canada.

We noticed that totem poles almost always have animals and people on them.

We watched a video on how to draw one and then did our own, step by step. We had to really concentrate in order to know where to put what.

We will post some pictures of our totem poles tomorrow once they are finished.

My Trip

I'm going on the 24th of June from NZ to Bangkok to Vietnam to Cambodia back to Koi Sumi  (Thailand)  then back home. I am looking forward to Vietnam. We are going to do a cooking class. Cambodia sounds exciting. I've been to Koi Sumi before and it's very nice . Amy's mum recommended a hotel last time we stayed in Koi Sumi. We are staying there again! Bye! Catch up soon.

Going to London.

On Sunday me, my brother, my mum and my grandma are going to London for three weeks to meet my Dad who has been away in Nigeria for two months.
We are staying on a friend of my mum and dad's boat in a river.
We have been saving up for such a long time and now all our hard work at the market has paid off and we get a lovely trip.

Room 14s Trip to MOTAT

Hi its Ellah and Anouska  reporting on our trip to Motat. We were going there to investigate electricity.When Room 14 arrived at Motat we met our teacher for the day. At Motat we went into a big classroom . It had a big ball  and when you put your hands on it, your hair would stand on end. IT WAS SO AWESOME. We also made electrical circuits and made confetti stick on a pipe. After a while we went to explore Motat. I had never been to Motat before so it was really interesting for me. I had so much fun in the mirror maze. It was so scary and my heart was pumping. I thought i was going to pass out. What a great trip!

Our Marvelous MOTAT trip!

Hi it's Room 14 here. We all went on an amazing tour around Motat. First of all we went into the classroom to learn about Electricity. I learnt that if you rub a balloon on your head your hair will stick up like a lion's main.We learnt  about conductors and eliminator's: conductors let electricity go through but eliminators don't let electricity come through. Electricity has to flow though a complete circuit to make the lightbulb work. Static electricity is blue.

Venus passed the sun

On Wednesday Room 14 watched Venus go around the sun. It is going to be a long time till it goes round again. When I  got home I had my dinner. My Mum, Dad, Artus and I watched the news. It kept on going on about other stuff. Then the ads came on. It exclaimed," Venus is going round the sun." and
people were wearing 3D glasses and some were looking through a telescope.  After that, Deal or No Deal
was on.  The lady Cindy was doing badly.

Venus passes the sun

On Wednesday, Venus passed the sun!  It comes around once in a century. I thought it was wicked. We checked it in the afternoon as well as the morning. In the morning it was at the top of the sun and later on in the day it was in the middle. Andrea ( my teacher ) told me that it came from the left of the sun even though it was on the right. We saw it on the projector. Once in a while it went blue and then red. My mum said if there were absolutely no clouds then it would go dark. The day before, I made a telescope so when I got  home I could look at it . So when I got home, I did.  I felt happy because it was cool-ish.                                                                                                                                                                                                  By Alice.

Venus going across the sun

On Wednesday the sixth of June 2012, Room 14 watched Venus go across the sun. It was amazing and I will not be alive when it happens again. So, it was great to see it. It was really cool. It was on the news too. All I saw was just one red dot, the Sun, and one black dot, Venus, going across the sun. My picture is Venus going across the sun.

No time for Show and Tell? Use an iPad !

Phoenix brought in something very unique to share with the class. We ran out of time so James and Phoenix worked together and used the iPad to record the show and tell story.

First Phoenix wrote down what he wanted to share. James helped him with the writing process.

Then James used the iPad to record Phoenix reading his script.
They also took pictures using the iPad to share the unique show and tell.
They also made a comic strip using the Comic APP.

Finally Andrea imported their footage and made an iMovie.

James and Phoenix's next step is to make their own iMovie.
